Carlos Marrero, MDPain Medicine Specialist/ Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Specialist

Dr. Marrero was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. After completing his medical studies at the Universidad Iberoamericana, he returned to his beloved island where he underwent training in General Surgery and worked as a Surgical Critical care House-staff at the University of Puerto Rico. He moved to NYC for where he received advanced training in Burn and Plastic Surgery in the Stanley M. Levenson Burn Unit at Jacobi Medical Center, one of the top burn units in NY state. He then decided to move to Syracuse, NY where he completed residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at SUNY Upstate. Ultimately, he became a Hurricane while training in Interventional Pain Management at the University of Miami (It’s all about the U!). He’s excited to work at North American Spine and Pain with the desire to provide his patients with a cutting-edge multidisciplinary approach to their pain based on the different and broad experience he has gained throughout his training. Dr. Marrero enjoys spending time with his wife and family, although most of them still live back in PR. He’s a wannabe chef and hopes someday he can transition into a real chef during his private time but would never discriminate against a $1 pizza slice. He enjoys basketball, tennis and fútbol (soccer) and states, although not confirmed, that he was a good player at two of those once upon a time.   Dr. Marrero is fluent in both Spanish and English.

    Fun Fact:

Dr. Marrero had a full scholarship in college for singing although most of his fraternity brothers did not believe he was really in the university choir.
